Physiotherapy at Home
Rehabilitation in the room where recovery actually has to work
Neuro, ortho and chest physiotherapy delivered at the bedside — stroke and paralysis rehab, joint-replacement recovery, mobility training and fall prevention.
A physiotherapist in a clinic can only guess at your bathroom doorway. At home, the therapist trains the patient on the actual stairs they need to climb, the actual chair they need to rise from, and the actual bed they need to transfer out of at 3 AM. For neurological and post-surgical patients, that transfer of skill to the real environment is not a nice-to-have — it is the whole point of rehabilitation.
Sessions run 45 to 60 minutes and are typically scheduled three to six times a week in the early phase, tapering as the patient becomes independent. Progress is measured against the baseline taken in session one and re-assessed every two weeks, so improvement is a number you can see rather than an impression.
Our therapists are BPT/MPT qualified, and neuro cases are handled by therapists with specific neuro-rehabilitation experience. Where a patient's needs outgrow what is possible at home — robotic gait training, hydrotherapy, intensive daily rehab — we say so and refer to our in-clinic team rather than stretching a home programme past its usefulness.
Everything in the plan, stated upfront
Assessment and goal setting
A first session spent measuring, not treating: range of motion, tone, power grading, balance and gait, plus what the home actually demands — the stairs, the bathroom threshold, the bed height.
Neuro rehabilitation
Task-specific training, gait re-education, sitting and standing balance, spasticity management and hand function work, drawing on the same protocols used at our Neuromotion rehabilitation centre.
Orthopaedic rehabilitation
Post-operative mobilisation, strengthening progressions, pain-modulating modalities and safe return-to-activity plans after joint replacement, fracture or sports injury.
Chest physiotherapy
Airway clearance, breathing exercises and positioning for bedridden, post-COVID, COPD and ventilator-weaning patients — one of the highest-value interventions for anyone immobile.
Home programme and equipment advice
A written daily exercise sheet for the family plus practical recommendations on walker, commode, grab rails and bed setup. Most gains happen between our visits, so the home programme is the deliverable.

About physiotherapy
As early as the treating doctor clears it — often within days, while the patient is still in hospital, and continued at home immediately on discharge. The first three months carry the steepest recovery curve; time lost in that window is difficult to recover later.
It depends on the diagnosis and starting point, and anyone who quotes a number before assessing the patient is guessing. After the first session you get a written plan with an estimated duration and the milestones that would justify tapering.
The family does a large share of them — that is by design, and we train you for it. What a therapist adds is correct progression and catching compensations early, which is where unsupervised home exercise usually goes wrong.
Therapists carry portable modalities, resistance bands, gait belts and assessment tools. Larger equipment such as a standing frame or parallel bars can be arranged on rent when the plan calls for it.
